Wash & Care Information

GENERAL WASH & CARE GUIDELINES FOR FABRIC / GARMENT / SAREE

Have you ever got your favourite dress spoilt due to a careless washing? Most probably your answer is ‘YES’,and the disappointmentit brought to you wascertainly intense. It is not always only the price tag of a garment which makes it precious but also the emotional and sentimental values we attach to it. In order to take good care of your garments you need to know a bit more about them.

Most of the popular fabrics like SILK, COTTON, LINEN, JUTE etc…are made from natural fibres and are washable when they are in their purest form. However, these fibres undergo several processes to become a fabric or garment during which they sometime turn sensitive to wet cleaning methods.

The weaving patterns, the colour dyes used, printing methods, characteristics of other yarns blended, embroidery works and embellishments attached to the garments etc. also need to be taken into consideration while deciding if a garment is safe towet cleaning methods.

So, each garment or fabric, even though made of the same fibres, has got a different character and for the same reason, a standardised wash instruction cannot be advised, instead we can provide you with information and some broad guidelines based on which you may use your own judgement to decide as which method of cleaning is safe for your garments.

SILK, SILK BLEND :-    SILK is a natural fibre and has got better stability, durability and strength when compared to many other natural/synthetic fibres used in cloth making. But some of the colour dyes used on them are unpredictable in nature and may bleed for a few washes.

WASH & CARE GUIDELINES

  • DRY CLEAN is the safest way to maintain the sheen, Colour and weave structure of SILKS
  • DO NOT Machine washyour SILKS
  • DO NOT put your SILKS in dryer.
  • DO NOT leave the SILKS soaked in water.
  • DO NOT use strong detergents to wash silk
  • DO NOT squeeze or wring SILKS, this may spoil the weave structure of the fabric.
  • DO NOT bundle your silk with other wet garments.
  • Dry SILKS only in shaded place.
  • If you decide towaterwash your SILKS, conduct a test first, wash a small inner corner of the fabric and check for colour bleeds, shrinkage etc. If you do not find any problems, you may go ahead with washing your silk.
  • In case of mild stains, wash with cold water immediately after performing step 09
  • For heavy stains, DRY CLEAN the fabric.
  • While ironing check and confirm that the heat settings are within the range specified for SILKS.
  • For storage, cover the SILK with clean, dry and preferably white cotton clothes.
  • DO NOT store SILK SAREES in polythene bags as this may cause the golden zaris to turn black.

COTTON, COTTON BLEND, LINEN, JUTE: – Cotton and Linen are plant-based fibres and they make moderately strong and stableyarns. Generally pure cotton and Linen are safe to water wash, but again the colour dyes, other yarns mixed with them etc. need to be considered. It is always recommended to conduct a test on a small area of your fabric for colour stability and shrinkage.

WASH & CARE GUIDELINES

  • DRYCLEAN is a safe way to clean your clothes.
  • DO USE a fixing agent (Rock salt or any market bought colour fixer) for first two or three washes.
  • Subsequent washes can be done with detergent and water.
  • Hand washed clothes will have more life than machine washed clothes.
  • Mild detergents mean betterweave structure and longer life for fabrics.
  • Luke warm water can be used to soak cottons (Never in the first few washes)
  • After wet wash, expect a shrinkage of 3 % to 5 % for cotton and Linen, amount of shrinkage will be more if warm water is used for washing. Pre-shrunk fabrics will not shrink.
  • If your clothing has got delicate embroideries or embellishments DO NOT put them in dryer.
  • Store your cottons in cool, dark, dry place.
  • DO NOT starch your cottons/Linens if you intend to store them for a long period.

NYLON, POLYESTER, RAYON, VISCOSE, GEORGETTE, CHIFFON

These are synthetic fibres and generally safe to hand wash and machine wash, however conduct a test on a small area of the cloth and check for their suitability for wet cleaning methods. Also use your best judgement to decide if they are washable.
